'I Made A Difference' pin given to dozens of residents

Mayor Piazza honors volunteer Gwen Travis with an 'I Made A Difference' pin

Lakewood’s new resident recognition program got a jump start Tuesday night, as dozens of residents received the new “I Made a Difference” lapel pins at a Lakewood Celebrates reception. Original Lakewood resident Gwen Travis, honored as Older Adult Volunteer of the Year, was one of the first to receive her pin from Mayor Ron Piazza (see photo).

Others recognized for making a positive difference in the community included team leaders from Volunteer Day, LYS coaches, the Meals on Wheels Volunteer of the Year, and the leadership team from Artesia High School in honor of rising test scores and achievements from that Lakewood school.

“I’m so pleased that we had this chance tonight to honor so many of our residents,” said Piazza, who initiated the new recognition campaign. "My council colleagues and I look forward to giving out many more of these pins.”
