Lakewood Sheriff's deputies decorate home of slain colleague
Lakewood Sheriff’s Station Deputy Dave Powell was killed in 2002 when a gunman holding a hostage at a house in Artesia shot him as he tried to enter the home.
At his funeral, mourners said Dave would never be forgotten. And he hasn’t been.
Every holiday season, Lakewood Sheriff’s deputies go to the home of Deputy Powell’s widow, Emma Powell, and put Christmas decorations on her home. Deputies also insist on asking Emma for a “honey-do list” so they can perform maintenance around the house for her throughout the year.
The Long Beach Press-Telegram recently ran a touching article with photos of the deputies helping Emma Powell which you can view here.
Thank you Lakewood Sheriff’s deputies for making a positive difference in our community!
