December holiday trash pickup and city services

City Hall with holiday decor

Lakewood City Hall will be closed the week of Dec. 25-29 and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

DASH Transit service will continue as usual on weekdays, except for Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.

For the two holiday weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1:

  • Trash pickup will be delayed one day all week, as Christmas and New Year's Day fall on Mondays.
  • Street sweeping in residential areas will occur as normal from Dec. 26-29 and Jan. 2-5.
  • No street sweeping on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and no makeup sweeps for those two days.

Parking enforcement

There will be NO street sweeping-related parking enforcement during the weeks of Dec. 25-29 and Jan. 1-5.

However, if you can, please move your vehicles off the street during street-sweeping hours to help your street get the cleanest possible sweep.

Parking enforcement will continue for non-street-sweeping related violations, such as parking in red zones or blocking sidewalks.

Christmas tree pickup

EDCO will pick up discarded Christmas trees left on your parkway or next to the curb on your regular trash collection day (with the one-day delay as described above) for the two weeks following Christmas, Dec. 26-30 and Jan. 2-6.

  • Flocked trees are OK.
  • Decorations, tinsel and metal or plastic stands must be removed.
  • Wooden tree stands can be left on the tree.
  • The tree must not be in a bag.
  • Trees over six feet tall must be cut in half.

Beginning Jan. 8, trees not picked up can be disposed of in this manner:

Cut up your tree in 4-foot lengths so it fits with the lid closed when placed in the appropriate cart:

  • Unflocked trees: Put in green waste cart.
  • Flocked trees: Put in regular trash cart (flocked trees can't be recycled).

Or, you can leave both flocked and unflocked trees curbside but only if they are 4' in length and bundled and tied together (not loose).

Extra trash service

From Dec. 26-30, the week immediately following Christmas, EDCO will pick up extra holiday trash on your trash pickup day (with the one-day delay).

Use your existing carts as much as possible, but you can also leave up to 10 standard-size trash bags about two feet from your cart for pickup.

Holiday and appliance boxes may be left near your cart as well.

There is no charge for this extra service and no need to call EDCO in advance.
