When COVID stopped the clock

In Lakewood, aka Sports Illustrated’s Sportstown USA, losing a year of sports due to a pandemic left a void among high school student athletes, coaches, administrators, alumni and fans.

Lakewood CityTV has produced a captivating video which grasps the emotion and loss of the 2020 season.

For many of the athletes, and especially graduating seniors, they didn’t realize when they stepped off the field or court, or climbed out of the pool in 2019 or early 2020, that it would be their final moment of high school competition.

The story is told through interviews with student athletes, coaches and athletic directors from Artesia HS, Lakewood HS, Mayfair HS and St. Joseph HS.

Spoiler alert: The video also covers the dramatic 90-day span of time in 2021 when every high school sport was reinstated for a whirlwind season that demonstrated the passion, commitment and organizational capabilities of the schools, coaches, athletic directors, and of course the student athletes.
